My '02 Savage has 700 miles on it and I just took it up to 70 for the first time, which for me is flying. I like cruisin' at 60, so I don't run the interstate too often. One of these days I'll try 80. I figure the engine should be 'run in' by 1000 miles, then I'll try some full throttle. I've always been a part-time motorhead and I'm quickly 'learning' about the Savage. My plug runs a very light color and I have the typical backfires--indicative of a lean mixture. I live near sea level. Periodically, from a safety standpoint, visually inspect the tires, feel the spokes for looseness, check running lights, and of course brake adjustment and engine oil level. A motorcycle shop mechanic once remarked ... stay away from driving in the gutter. ....Krug
